This was hands down the best Kissimmee auction that mecum has ever hosted. It’s honestly not even that close
38:00 ........... Had I only known back in those days these mini bikes that sold new for about $300 would bring thousands of dollars at auction, I'd have invested in scores of them and stored them in old containers.
@Rapid Transit My mother worked as an admissions clerk at the local large hospital and saw guys come in with really bad motorcycle wreck injuries. That screwed me up from buying a Honda. I've owned motorcycles ever since leaving home. Still have one. Harley of course.
@Chuck Ster Cool story. Almost the same here. My parents let me buy that mini- bike and ride it everywhere. My dad would give the cops a hard time when they would stop me. He would tell them don't you have anything better to do. My dad didn't like anyone to mess with his kids. My friend told me your dad bought you a kawi 100 motorcycle and showed me a picture of it. But I didn't get it. My mom told him that I would get killed on it and didn't want me to have it. She probably saved my life.....lol. Thanks for the reply. Brings back memories
Japanese are buying these up
@Rapid Transit I bought, for $5 when I was also a paperboy, a minibike with chain drive and a gas tank shaped like a motorcycle tank, but no engine. A friend of mine sold me his Honda 50 engine from his salvage bike that he had wrecked. I installed that engine to the mini-bike and promptly blew it up due to too low of gearing and me winding it out. Then I found another friend with a complete, running Yamaha 80 engine and installed it. Changed the drive sprocket to one as large as I could put on it and it would hit 30 mph easily in top gear. I had a lot of fun with that mini-bike and would ride it everywhere. Funny how my folks would let me have that mini-bike with one wheel brake and no lights, horn or license, but they wouldn't let me buy a new Honda motorcycle, which was easily affordable to me. I spent the money on a Schwinn 15 speed bicycle (the first they ever made) and a new Schwinn bicycle for my newspaper route that had a 2-speed rear hub combo brake and gears. Got a lot of use out of them. They wouldn't allow me to deliver newspapers on the mini-bike however, since I had an early morning paper route and no muffler, lights, license, etc. Back then I could have gotten my motorcycle license at 14, which is what all my buddies were doing. I had to peddle my papers, literally. But, I survived, even in those very cold Midwest winters. For the life of me, I can't remember what I did with the minibike or the bicycles when I left home to join the Navy. I think my folds sold them so they could send me money every now and then.
When I was 12 I delivered news papers. Saved my money until I had 200 dollars. Went to the Uniroyal and bought me a 3 and a half horse clinton mini-bike. Wish I would have never rode it. And put it away. The one on here went for 10 grand. Who knew!!!
......@Chip Gill......Yeah, this Mecum Auction was somewhat of a classy event......How in the hell did they allow that idiot to announce the next vehicles......What a fucking joke!!
*Mecum Auctions* nice...
Somebody tell the dyslexic announcer how to pronounce Edelbrock. It's not el-de-brock
Who are the bidders named Ricky, Kelsey, and Sean Hagler? Are they contract bidders for other clients?
@F OFF....No hell they aren't.....They aren't bidding on shit ...They are the eyes and ears of the auctioneer, simply relaying bids!
There the idiots that jack up the price but have no intention on buying what there bidding on like that poor sap that got screwed on that cobra.
10-4. Thanks for explaining
All live auctions have people (assistants) who are walking around in front of the crowd looking for someone bidding, they relay that to the auctioneer. They are also on the phones taking bids from anyone who has called in. They are also on the internet watching for bids. Basically they are the auctioneers eyes since he can't be looking everywhere at once.
