Excellent overview and comparison to rzr. I do trust honda quite a bit more than polaris. Glad honda has stepped up to the plate with performance. I have had honda odysseys and polaris atvs. Polaris always has the innovation but honda the reliability. I do really like the 4wd system of the polaris although don't normally drive in conditions where I "wouldn't make it" with the honda. I can drive the honda in 4x4 all the time, right? I like to trail ride my Sportsman 4x4 in 4x4 mode as it handles and slides a lot better.
Cage is not thick. It’s .060 wall
It is nice diameter. And it works great I've used mine twice LOL
I have 1000 miles on my 2020 talon 1000r and don’t have the vibration issues and once my sub trans blew and was updated it’s amazing . I do agree with turning radius. Over all highly recommend buying a talon
Is that a little bird in the background ?? Lol Awesome review 😎
Man what a great video!
My brother is a Honda tech. He has replaced over half of the secondary gearbox of the machines that go out the door of the dealership.
Eric Elsberry I’ve been hearing about leak issues what else is going on?
Awesome and super informative...BUT...I am now Nauseous
I like how people spend a shit load of money on SXS and still bitch about what they got LOL
How an u say the talons suspension is TOP NOTCH? That's been on the drawing board for years before it came out. And to compare it to the polaris turbo is crazy. The razr turbo has the best NEW SUSPENSION IN THE BUISNESS TO DATE.its computer reads the travel 200 times a minute. Be honest its like driving a Cadillac to a Flintstones mobile.. TOP NOTCH LMAO
Everyone's entitled to their opinion but no one can keep up with me... Soooooo. I do wish it didn't nose dive so badly but the wheel base is so nice in mud and rocks
Put RTV around the wire at the fuel injector plugs. Engine vibration work-hardens the wire causing it to brake. Will save your day and a lot of time trouble shooting.
You must really like those Honda's, your hating on every other brand hard. Apples to apples, Honda is still so far behind the competition. Just like with there ATV's, underpowered, under suspended and way way over priced.
I’ve never had a SXS but this ones transmission seems like it clangs everytime it shifts. Is that normal?
Yep. At least it shifts... Unlike a cvt lol
I heard you can’t drift them or do donuts because of the 4x4 system... that true?
Lol watch my videos
The cage is made of tinfoil and is going to kill somebody because it is worthless.
Well you're talking to a guy who has flipped his twice and the cage held up just fine let me know when you have some firsthand experience bud
My dad is about to buy a pos side by side from china off a wholesale website lmao and i keep telling him get a talon hes so delusional he just told me “ im not gonna fuck over my country and fellow americans” lmaooooo so hes gonna buy sum bullshit from china 🤣🤣
Honda's are made in the US unlike Polaris and Can-Am
Great video. You made interesting points. I recently sold my africa twin, loved it because it was fun and ultra reliable. It was time to let it go after owning it for 4 years. I need something to enjoy with the family now and considering one of these. I just started my research.
Very thorough review. Well done. Next time drink the Red Bull after the review. Got going pretty good there for awhile
suggestion next time don't do a review out in the middle of a wind storm lol
The competition is 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭. This machine is the mark of excellence 🍺🍺. Who cares what it cost.
I-4wd = Billy Goat Mode
The fact you called superatv autistic 😂
lol @ 24:10 "I'm done talking".. video has 6 more minutes.
@18:20, I think mounting a spare tire and reserve fuel tank more toward the passenger side would help balance the weight if there is more on the driver side.
lol @ 14:13 "If you're not a moron, they work great."
pioneers over heat due to ecu problems which is fixed by updating it.
Cage is junk. 2” but super thin material. Deadly. I have the 4 seater live valve.
It's all about the angles
Yeah mine's in flip six times held up great
Sub-trans, your major complaint.. it's a non issue. Mine is seamless between all modes including H/L range. No clunks, or grinds. No other reviewer has had anything to say but rainbows and unicorns. Yours definitely has a problem. Get it to the dealer. If it's not an easy adjustment, make them swap out the entire trans.
Do some research genius literally hundreds of people have had low range issues... Get on some of the Facebook pages I'm glad you got lucky and don't have one with the problem though. seems like it's about 50-50 if they have problems engaging and then 10% of those actually strip out gears
I have heard other people say this suspension isn't great - especially the rear and the air filter design makes you replace pretty often.
Air filter is fine for most usage. Mines even better with the snorkel. Rear suspension is stiff but I usually carry a cooler and recovery gear so works decent for me
I have a Honda Talon 1000 R myself. I was kinda skeptical at first about the I-4 wheel drive. I feel Honda did right. I thank its more trail friendly. A true locker is nice to have but sometimes I really hate it. Like w/ a true locker when you are trying to turn, everything is fighting itself and that’s when thangs break. A true locker in mud makes sense. On rocks, me personally I like the I-4 Wheel drive. That way let’s say if 3 wheels are pulling you through and 1 wheel is off the ground and suddenly hits the ground while your turning, you are least likely to break a half shaft//axle. Like the video. Thanks for sharing.
I new to the ATV world I’m thinking the talon is for me. Honda looks like they got it going on. Is there a way to get 200 HP out of these things?
@Mud Puppy or why anyone would say "I'm new to this" while simultaneously assuming they need 100 additional hp without ever owning one.
not yet but I have no idea why people think they need 200 horsepower on a side by side that weighs 1500 lb I guess everyone has a death wish lol
Honestly,,the suspension ,jumping bumps ect ,,sucks compared to can am,,rode yamaha,,kawasaki,,polaris and can am extensively,,,i gave no bias at all but the talon was the least liked one in the group,,to each their own,,what am I missing,,not trying to diss,,just can understand where your coming from,,thought for the non turbo the kawasaki seemed set up ,,ride ect far better,,can am was ,,,to me ,,,,just heads beyond anything else,,love the idea of no belts ,hate belt worries, but for the over all performance ill take it,again I'm not trying to be an ass,,
I find it more geared towards trails and rocks than like high-speed whoops
The rear suspension is a little bit stiff
The yxz doesn't have that many issues with the clutch its almost impossible to burn the clutch out of it lol
@Mud Puppy yeah its called a gear reduction
Lol oh yeah? That's why they sell 50 different clutch upgrades. The clutches are useless for the kind of riding we do. They need low range
I hope you get an exhaust, I’d love to hear this thing
50mph in low lol
White claw, bro?
Oh hell yeah
Thank You for a superbly in depth look at both the mechanical specifics and performance opinions of this machine. A lot of items the average person would not consider. Yeah you talk a little fast but you're cramming a lot of information in there LOL !!!
Great video man! We just got the 1000x4 non fox valve but so far we like it! Interested to see if you have any issues out of your R!
Fuck you’re a smart guy. I’ve got an x and love it. It was my only choice as I’m Honda for life. Best product out there
haha yes, just drinkin a white claw. Good ole boy!
Yo mane what should be a good price to pay for an R not asking what you paid but what’s a good deal ?🤷♂️
not saying Talon 1000r is a bad SXS i only wish Honda put a turbo on it .
Honda and Yamaha need to make a SXS in turbo. just like CamAm and Polaris . i love SXS with no belts ..
@kylelach2011 best part dont avoid the warranty
@kylelach2011 oh wow that crazy .
david ellsworth Jackson turbo kit, is supposedly going to be a Honda accessory. They claim 60% more power over stock without voiding your warranty
You did a really good review on the honda talon. Thanks for that man. i went to a dealer and looked at these but learned more listening to you lol
Honda I-4 wheel drive informational video..... algone.info/slow/video/nqW9soSChZJn16M
Curious how you came up with the 82% gear reduction. I'm looking at 4 inch 30% to run 34s
Honda in general there cars are beautiful but there transmission all suck that's there flaws and a bunch of other small things that turn out to one big problem in the long run
Their transmissions suck? Are you confused with Nissan? I’ve never had a single issue with a trans, 03 civic coupe, 04 accord coupe, 08 accord v6 and now a 12 accord cross tour v6
You're full of crap first one Honda makes and it's better than 10 or 15 years of Can-Am and Polaris it's a freaking Honda junk
It's 100% better than Polaris having owned five Polaris says I'm qualified to make that judgment how many machines have you owned? Can-Am quality is getting up there though
The rollcage is not thick! It is only around .060". DO NOT rely on the cage to save you in a rollover.
let me guess you're one of those paranoid people that want to have a 900 lb cage and ruin their center of gravity, visibility, and factory look. My buddy has rolled his x... Zero noticeable deflection or damage to the cage. Now the p1000 and wolverine those cages are pathetic
What's your thoughts of the i4wd in the mud
@Mud Puppy Yep, because the wheel speeds in the PCM are set for the stock diameter tires, when you change the diameter, you upset the PCM. I'm betting that there are some pretty complex software gymnastics going on inside the PCM. Plus the heavier tires alter the brake effectiveness. The payoff is the lighter steering, the front differential is open all the time.
@Mud Puppy thanks for the info I'm in Illinois and we have hard pack trails and mud. I'm thinking about getting the talon x this year and I'm just trying to find out as much info I can on them
On stock size tire it's adequate but it's struggling with my 32 Aztexs
Knockem down pick them back up lol.. All in all just send it
I like the durability of Hondas, but the suspension components look small, weak, and cheap.
@Mud Puppy It's very stout. There's a few of us racing (~100 miles courses) them out in the desert (no not sand dunes). Your back/shoulders will give out before the suspension will.
the front suspension is very beefy the rear is kind of complicated in wacky but it works amazing I was skeptical by the looks of it too
What is small or cheap about a 2.5 inch fox shock? Lol
Honda baby.. We send ours hard
If you see a second spring on a shock and it’s maxed out, it’s probably not a dual rate setup. The smaller spring is just a keeper spring. It keeps tension on the main spring at full droop. I’m really liking the new Talon! Might be time to upgrade my old rzr 800.
Lots of room for a turbo. 😍
Honda is late to the party and they dropped the ball
@david ellsworth and look who has a turbo available........honda
@Mud Puppy lol@ taking a good chunk of the market from Can-Am and Polaris . i would say maybe if Honda have a Turbo SXS . dont get me wrong Talon 1000 R is really good SXS but it needs a Turbo . just saying
Late yes drop the ball hell no. Unless everyone else starts coming out withmachines that don't have belts and also have low range they have a very good chance of taking a good chunk of the market from Can-Am and Polaris.
So factory u can't get to deep can u
@Mud Puppy wow you replied!! Thank you sm
Air intake is shoulder level
You'd be surprised
You're a little late on the review. Pioneer was for the old guys, the Talon is for the old guys that want to feel "Sporty" again. Inferior in most ways to other SxS's. Better seats than Polaris though, not sure what could be worse then those. Font end is far worse then ViscoLok, which actually works great from the factory until you burn it out with larger tires. Jumps about as well (as bad) as a YXZ. It's a good "Sport UTV" for the old timers that want to go bar to bar.
Velislide you are definitely a boomer
Have you even driven a talon
more premium than a polaris or canam. where. its litterally a carbon copy of build quality. the honda doesn't jump or ride better. thats just a lie. all the seats adjust on all brands. all steering wheels tilt. the popos telescope as well. the instrument cluster is off a honda foreman. it is litterally just what most entry level sxs are built like. it has no carrier bearing because the front drive shaft is shorter than the others. the others dont even have rear driveshafts. the can ams and polaris have the exact same rubber booted heim joints on there radius rods. this is a terrible review. 90 percent of what your saying is not true. yeah its a good machine. is it better no. that rear suspension is an abomination. trailing arm too long and because of desighn they had to add extra arms to help all of those single shear mounts.
You think Polaris and Can Am build quality products? That's cute. Read Consumer Reports.
Polaris and can am are still using Vespa transmissions lol double clutch is the future... It's like a C8 vs Challenger boys
