In the dusts of Iraq, the ruins of the world's first civilization lie buried.
This episode, we travel into the extremely distant past to look at the Sumerians. These ancient people invented writing and mathematics, and built some of the largest cities that the world had ever seen. Find out about the mystery of their origins, and learn how they rose from humble beginnings to form the foundation of all our modern societies. With myths, proverbs and even some recreated Sumerian music, travel back to where it all began, and find out how humanity's first civilization fell.

These historical documentaries about early people and their lives are so fascinating. I often wonder what the people of 6500 will think of us when they uncover our society. Probably, “Wow...what a dumpster fire. Surprising they lasted as long as they did.”

Lol, the flood myth of the Abrahamic faiths were stolen whole cloth from the Sumar, looks like the Exodus was as well..... The migration hypothesis though would (now unfortunately) need a bit more evidence, which would be under water. As it stands we can find 5000+ year old Bedouin camps in the desert but not a million plus slaves leaving Egypt and wondering around for 40 years on a walk that takes a few days.

As a Syrian who's been taught the history of this area very well in school, and who is obsessed with the history of Mesopotamia since childhood, I can easily say that this is the best documentary I've seen about the Sumerians so far. I think it's brilliant that the video starts with identifying the geography and geology of this area, then moves to the story of early humans and the invention of agriculture before talking about the Sumerians themselves. This is not only due to how pioneering the Sumerians were, but also to how important it is to provide such background when you teach history. Excellent job :) Plus, it means so much to me that someone is talking about the Sumerians. It is too bad that most people I meet outside of our region don't seem to know anything about the ancient civilisations of Mesopotamia and the Eastern Mediterranean, which is unfortunate due to how pioneering these civilisations were. I hope to see more videos like this about this region in the future :) :) {Edit}: This comment surprisingly got a lot of attention, so I have to clarify to whoever thought that I was identifying as Sumerian, read my comment again and you will see that I NEVER did that. It's absurd to claim such a thing considering how much the populations of Mesopotamia and the Eastern Mediterranean (my region) have mixed over 5 millennia. I understand how genetics work guys!! Instead, what I'm doing is acknowledging this civilisation as part of the area's history (more precisely Iraqi history). For example: As a Syrian/Lebanese, even if I don't identify as a Phoenician, they are still part of my culture's history and heritage.. That's my point :)

This is hilarious, your all in for such a shock, His-story is a complete fabrication of the world in which you think you live. Nothing is what you think it is. The very nature of what you view reality to be set in stone and linear ..... isn't. you'll see soon enough.

I know nothing to do with the topic of the video, but I wanted and liked to tell my experience event that i have been experience ,strange or miracle which I wrote in many sites, I am an Arab from State of Qatar this is not my name for personal reasons in the second half of April 2016 , I woken suddenly to witness this this phenomenon I saw on the ceiling of my room clearly and for period a few seconds,it was sufficient the image of the Christ the face clear, as i remembered , i think hinted that his hands back and appearance is very natural without the presence of things out of the ordinary, the face light skin and a little long, and features are wonderful resembles from the Middle East Caucasians people ,the beard is normal and the hair of the head lays on top of his shoulders the eyes with beauty and sharp looking image impressed me with complete clarity . I thought at first that he looked like one of my friends to a slight degree, but quickly I felt inspiration jumped to my mind. He is Christ, I realize and know that all or the majority will not believe I understand , the importance here of what has happened is still dazzle and an ultimate truth to me which print in my mind can not forget it ever. using google as assistance to translate most Arabic to English **Christ looks write in you tube this title (St. Faustina and the Image of Divine Mercy)almost the same similarity or very close to his features, difference between the beard and head hair is a little darker compared to this and head hair not so long lay on the top of his shoulder and the beard not as it looks like this, not triangle in front .using google as assistant to translate most Arabic to Englishظاهرة عجيبة كتبتها بمواقع كثيرة لو كنت بشك.

Being an Iraqi whois late dad was from Nineveh in northern Iraq, I remember how keen my dad was on visiting museums he could all around the world and taking video footage of their collections of Iraqi artifacts and archeological findings. This has been one of the most beautifully narrated, well paced to the point of being harmonious and scientifically rich documentaries I have ever had the pleasure of watching. The fact that you covered the Semetic/ Summerian symbiotic history, which is the history of the ancestors of virtually every Iraqi so well is such a feat! My late Dad would would have been thrilled if he had the chance to watch it. The cradle of civilization as we know it deserved this level of professionalism and scientific accuracy. You have earnt a subscriber and my gratitude as a human being and an Iraqi. May you and your wonderful team be blessed always.

@ 30 minutes in, he says that the Sumerians referred to themselves as The Black Headed People. That is all that was upon the earth in our ancient history. There was no white man and there were no redheads or yellow fur people. That mutation didn't come into the world until much later. And we know that Caucasians are an A.D. people and have only been on the earth for a very short time bc we know they weren't here thousands of years later when Jesus walked the earth! After that racist attempt to insert Caucasians into our ancient history, I can't believe anything he says!!!!

Its funny when you said " we don't know were these people came from"its a joke, archeologists knew were they're originated from. There are struggling to admit ancient Egyptian civilisation is black african origin, its a intellectual suicide for white scholars to even have thought the sumerians ( elamites) could also black people work. The gilgamesh epic et nothing but the of nimrob the mighty hunter and he was black man. Everywhere you go and dig you are going to find the fingerprint of the black man. No wonder there's so much hate.
